The Trout Tour - The Vanbrugh with Michael McHale and Malachy Robinson

The Vanbrugh welcome regular guests Michael McHale (piano) and Malachy Robinson (double bass) for performances of two of the finest works in the chamber music repertoire. Brahms’ turbulent and dramatic Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor tells the tale of Brahms’ love for Clara Schumann in one of the most powerful expressions of musical romanticism. The second part of the concert brings complete contrast with Schubert’s Trout Quintet, a perennial favourite amongst both musicians and audiences for its elegance, charm and beauty.

A few years ago Saramai Leech and Cormac O’Keeffe settled in an out-of-the-way cottage on an estate a few miles out from their home town Navan, Co. Meath. They made a studio in their kitchen and when they left the door open the peahens and chickens would curiously make their way inside. During these years in the ‘middle of nowhere’ with feathered creatures and tall old trees, Perlee was born. Vocal harmonies, synths, strangely tuned and detuned reverberant guitars abound in a vast yet minimal sound.

Formed fifteen years ago and currently under the directorship of Carmel Reilly, Virginia Gospel Choir’s members hail from a wide catchment area across Cavan and Meath. The choir previously supported Harlem Gospel Choir (2018) and The Three Tenors (2011) in Solstice and in 2011 they represented Ulster in RTE’s All Ireland Talent Show and performed at The National Concert Hall.
