New Music to soar from Solstice

Solstice Arts Centre with This is How we Fly announce new Music Residency

Solstice Arts Centre and This is How we Fly announce a new music residency throughout 2018/19. The residency will be launched on Saturday 28 July with a welcome performance at Solstice in Navan, Co. Meath.

Formed in 2010, This is How we Fly is a contemporary folk band consisting of Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh (Ireland) on hardanger d'amore, Seán Mac Erlaine (Ireland) on clarinets & electronics, Nic Gareiss (US) on percussive dance, and Petter Berndalen (Sweden) on drums and percussion.  The blend of these four individual musicians draws on Irish, Swedish and American music and dance traditions.  Their collective pedigree includes collaborations with The Gloaming, The Chieftains, Darol Anger and Gjallarhorn.

This Is How We Fly are “delighted and excited to undertake this ambitious and generous residency at Solstice Arts Centre. This residency is a development of the relationship we have with both the venue and the Director Belinda Quirke, and will form a large part of the writing of new material as a group, as well as pursuing new individual projects.  We intend to create work inspired by Solstice and the area around it, utilizing local amenities, communities and spaces.  We look forward to a truly unique evening at Solstice to launch the residency.  Other projects and possibilities will occur throughout 2018 and into 2019, and alongside these; This is How we Fly will write their third record whilst in residency at the centre.”

Belinda Quirke, Director of Solstice said “Is it my pleasure to welcome Petter, Caoimhín, Nic and Seán to Solstice. This is How we Fly are uniquely inventive, bringing a particular alchemy to their performances refined by exceptional musicianship and compelling camaraderie.  Experientially this residency is mutually conducive, creating shared, as well as individual encounters within the Boyne Valley region”.

A welcome performance will take place at Solstice on Saturday 28th July, featuring a summer buffet of local food and drink.  Tickets are limited, priced at €20 and are available online or by calling 046 909 2300.
