The Trout Tour - The Vanbrugh with Michael McHale and Malachy Robinson

Friday 31 January, 8:00pm  |  Tickets: €18 / €16 (conc)

The Vanbrugh are joined by pianist Michael McHale and double bassist Malachy Robinson for two of the finest works in the chamber music repertoire by Brahms and Schubert.
Brahms' turbulent and dramatic c minor piano quintet tells the tale of Brahms' love for Clara Schumann in one of the most powerful expressions of musical romanticism. The second part brings complete contrast with Schubert's "Trout Quintet", a perennial favourite amongst both musicians and audiences for its elegance, charm and beauty.
Brahms: Piano Quintet in c minor Op.60
Schubert: Piano Quintet in A major D 667 The Trout
The Vanbrugh has emerged from the legacy of the legendary Vanbrugh Quartet. One of Europe's most successful and distinguished quartets, recognised for beauty of sound, clarity of texture and integrity of interpretation, they had an unusually wide and varied range of repertoire and have an extensive discography.
Following the retirement of first violinist Gregory Ellis from quartet performance in 2017, Keith Pascoe (violin), Simon Aspell (viola) and Christopher Marwood (cello) continue as The Vanbrugh and perform with selected guest artists.  Over three decades the ensemble has given close to three thousand concerts, presenting the chamber music repertoire to audiences throughout Ireland, UK, Europe, the Americas, and the Far East.
Michael McHale (piano): Winner of the Terence Judd / Hallé Award in 2009.
Belfast-born Michael McHale has established himself as one of Ireland’s leading pianists and has developed a busy international career as a solo recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician.
