Fáilte roimh an Fleadh – Comhaltas Navan

Fáilte roimh an Fleadh – Comhaltas Navan

Sun 11th March, 7.30pm  |  Tickets: €15

For the 3rd year running, the Navan Shamrock Festival, taking place around St Patrick’s Day, opens with an exciting concert of Traditional Music, Song and Dance at Solstice.

This year’s concert, organised by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, Craobh na hUaimhe (Navan) takes place on Sunday 11th March (7.30pm), and, with Fleadh na hÉireann coming to Drogheda in August, we have given it the name  -

Fáilte roimh an Fleadh

Just as the Fleadh provides us with a wide variety of musical instruments, styles, performances and top class entertainment, the concert will contain a very enjoyable mix of tradition and culture. Without giving too much away, the program will contain music from some local players, groups and families, and we are delighted to welcome a group from Drogheda who will give us a flavour of what to expect in the Fleadh. We will also be welcoming Brian McNamara, originally from Leitrim, but living in Meath now, and one of the finest Uilleann Pipers of our generation. Apart from his music, Brian has lots of stories about the pipes and the tunes that he plays, always giving a most interesting performance.

First time to play in the Solstice, husband and wife duet, Paudie O’Connor and Aoife O’Keeffe, who hail from the Slieve Luachra district of Cork/Kerry are guaranteed to present us with the best of pure traditional music from Munster. Paudie plays the accordion and Aoife the fiddle and are well known on the traditional circuit with CD’s and TV appearances, which traditional fans will be familiar with. A most enjoyable performance is guaranteed.
